About Jenny Fratzke

Rancher, Pilot, Stewardess, Adventurer, Writer

Meet Jenny

Jenny Fratzke’s love of literature started when she was just a toddler. Before bed, her mother would read to Jenny and her sister while smoking a Pall Mall. Jenny memorized every word of her favorite book and every movement of her mother so she could mimic the flick of a cigarette while reciting the story between make-believe puffs.

Jenny eventually abandoned the “smoking,” but her love of books continued. She especially loved adventure books, like Oregon at Last, which she first discovered in the fourth grade. Books like Charlotte’s Web combined her heart for animals with the written word, and she started writing songs about animals. Writing became more than entertainment, though, as she discovered her ability to process her feelings and thoughts by journaling them out.

While books and writing were an integral part of Jenny’s childhood, they weren’t her only passion. Her heart for adventure took her to Pan American World Airways, where she spent three years traveling the world as a flight attendant. That let to getting her pilot’s license, which took her to Alaska as a bush pilot. She would even meet her husband in the air, flying as his co-pilot. They eventually settled down in Montana, where they started Flying AJ Ranch, a fully operational cattle ranch in the heart of Big Sky country.

Throughout all her travels and adventures, though, Jenny never lost her heart for writing. In 1990, she followed God’s call to the University of Alaska, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in English. Despite her later start as a writer, she doesn’t let its challenges stop her from fulfilling her calling. And with a fondness for a variety of writers—from C.S. Lewis to Shakespeare to George MacDonald—it’s no surprise that she enjoys writing everything from blog posts to devotionals to romantic suspense novels.

Now a writer of true and fictitious adventure stories that glorify the goodness of God, Jenny is ready to see where the next leg of life’s journey takes her.

Jenny lives in Montana with her husband of more than forty years. They’ve converted their cattle ranch to an organic farm, and they enjoy spending time outside (especially with their animals), traveling, and—of course—reading.
